A reminder to check your child’s cubby house for red back spiders during the warmer months

Parent and carers are being urged to check children’s cubby houses and play equipment for unwelcome visitors.

Red backs are becoming increasingly prevalent in backyards and playgroups, leading experts to embark on a new study to assess treatment for bites.

Each year sees around 5000 red back spider bite cases around Australia. While red back spiders are not overly aggressive, they are commonly found close to children’s play areas, such as cubby houses and play equipment.
